What is the definition of the ounce of pistachios and how to measure it?

The ounce of pistachio in-shell is an international numerical criterion that indicates the size of a pistachio. Whatever the ounce number is bigger, it shows there are smaller pistachios in the sample. Sizing is determined by the number of in-shell pistachio nuts per ounce (28,3495 g). It should be noted that broken nuts and blanks or empty nuts shall not be used in determining counts.

What Is the Definition of the Ounce of Pistachios and How to Measure It?

For measurement of an ounce, first, weigh 142.5 gr. of unshelled pistachios to the sample. Then count the number of whole nuts one by one. After that, divide the resulting number by five.

Another way is counting the number of sample nuts five by five and every five pistachios are one ounce. Whatever the ounce is less, nuts are larger and heavier, and if the ounce is bigger, then the nut is smaller.
